Bears should learn from loss to the Texans
Charles Leno Jr., who has been a revelation for the most part at left tackle, also got beaten a couple of times off the edge by Mercilus and co. As a unit that is now experiencing losses due to injuries, they did a great job in the season opener.

He first burst onto the National Football League scene past year when he played eight games for the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and posted a solid 1,967 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. After a strong first game and a few of his trademark flashes in the backfield, Bullard’s time to start is swiftly approaching. That likely opened up the field some for Houston’s aerial game. Whether in pass coverage (a point of concern for the Bears given the depleted health of their secondary) or against the run, both players filled gaps and made plays in pursuit all game long.
Houston’s defense gave up a 54-yard pass play from Cutler to Alshon Jeffery, putting the ball on the Texans 19 with 13 seconds left in the half.
Elliott was held to a 2.5-yard average (51 yards on 21 carries), although he had his first touchdown, and the only one for Dallas. They mustered a total of 71 yards and four first downs in the second half. They did a great job tackling and avoiding penalties.Tyler Ervin did a good job on punt/kickoff returns. Cutler’s pass was intercepted by Texan Andre Hal. Rookie Kevin White was not where the quarterback expected him to be on the interception.
“Third down is always key in any game”, Royal said.
The major criticism of the Texans in the preseason was the rushing attack and the offensive line. Cutler did not complete a pass in the third quarter, absorbed five sacks and was hit 13 more times. But the way he’s playing right now, it’s probably time to pump the breaks on any 80-catch, 1,000-yard seasons you may have been thinking of.
Leonard Floyd sacked Osweiler on first-and-10 at the Texans 21 in the second half, and he immediately had done more than White.
Fox, however, opted not to challenge the spot on Brock Osweiler’s quarterback sneak on third-and-inches with 14:17 to play.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler passed for 216 yards and a touchdown but was harassed throughout the second half by the Texans’ defensive front.
“You don’t see defenses like this week in and week out”, Cutler said about Houston. All in all, I think the ability is there.
“That’s with me and Cody (Whitehair)”, Cutler said.
Fuller had an opportunity to give the Texans an advantage in the second quarter when Osweiler laid the ball out there for him, but he dropped it. In particular, the Bears’ first touchdown-a 1-yard run by Jeremy Langford-showed a glimpse of why the arrival of Josh Sitton could ultimately change the fortunes of the Bears’ offense long-term.
“It’s there”, coach John Fox said. “You’d like to think you’ve got to get that”.
“It was a good learning experience for him”, Bears receiver Eddie Royal said of White. In his first game back from an ACL tear, Jordy Nelson made his presence felt with a six-yard touchdown grab that put the Packers back on top, but the Jags quickly answered with a 22-yard TD snag by tight end Julius Thomas.
Other than four Blair Walsh field goals, the Vikings’ defense scored twice in the final two periods – once on a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Eric Kendricks, and the other on a 24-yard fumble return for a touchdown by defensive end Danielle Hunter – to take the lead and pull away for good.

“I’ll talk to Kev about it”, Cutler said after the game. “It left my hand so it’s my responsibility”.
