Bears’ starting quarterback Jay Cutler out for Sunday’s game against Seattle

When Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss against the Arizona Cardinals, a certain group of Bears fans probably thought their prayers had been answered. Though, once the realization was made that Cutler wouldn’t be returning to the game after suffering a hamstring injury, the Bears got a glimpse of what life would be like after Cutler. Cutler has taken plenty of heat over his time in Chicago for the perception that he does not care.

“At that point in the game, you have to be fairly aggressive”, said John Fox. “When your starting quarterback goes down, you never want that to happen”. Cutler threw nine passes, completed eight of them. But the injury on Jefferson’s interception return was another big blow for a team that was already missing its top receiver with Alshon Jeffery out because of a hamstring problem.

The Bears said nothing about how long Cutler might be out of action, but backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who finished the game, gave a hint by saying, “Guys have to step up when guys go down”. Cutler missed the tackle (which he attempted with his throwing shoulder) and was replaced by Jimmy Clausen for the rest of the game.

Larry Fitzgerald and Carson Palmer combined for three touchdowns to help the Arizona Cardinals to a 48-23 victory over the Chicago Bears this evening.

“I got to finish that – I got to”, McPhee said. He also had three carries for 24 yards. With two prime opportunities for touchdowns near the end of the first half, the Bears had to settle for field goals by Robbie Gould. “We’ll just have to evaluate it going forward”. He spent four weeks on the Bears roster a year ago.

That left the offense in Clausen’s hands. Arizona will be without running back Andre Ellington (knee) for 2-3 weeks, meaning veteran Chris Johnson and rookie David Johnson will take on extra work in the backfield. The Bears sit in the NFC North cellar at 0-2. The tied their franchise record for the most penalty yards in a game, with more than 110. He was also benched one game last season for performance reasons by former coach Marc Trestman. Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson intercepted the pass, and during the return, he pushed Cutler down with a stiff arm that stifled the Bears’ quarterback. Marquess Wilson remains something of a disappointment, faced with a breakout opportunity with injuries to the receiver group, but with only two catches last week (on two targets) and only one of five vs. the Cardinals, for 10 yards. “Again, it’s football. People get hurt”, Allen said.
