Beason retires, Schwartz and Beatty released by Giants
Tough news for one of our friends here at 104.5 The Team: The New York Giants have released offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, along with offensive lineman Will Beatty and linebacker Jon Beason.

The winds of change are blowing strongly in East Rutherford, as the New York Giants have released veteran linebacker Jon Beason, tackle Will Beatty, and guard Geoff Schwartz.
The moves save the Giants about $11.7 million against the 2016 salary cap, which ups their projected cap room to about $55 million for this year even if they make no more cuts. He played only nine games the past two seasons, missing time due to foot and knee injuries.
Beason retires having played 93 games in nine seasons, recording 829 tackles, 10 interceptions and four sacks. We discussed possible roster cuts on Tuesday, and all three players were on our list.
Of course, now they’ll need to replace all three players, along with countless others on a team that has suffered three straight losing seasons and is headed into it’s first year under new head coach Ben McAdoo. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and he was a first-team All-Pro in 2008, earning second team All-Pro honors in 2009.
Those injuries stymied what was an otherwise very promising career. He played in 82 games through 2014, but missed the entire 2015 season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle during an offseason workout last May. Schwartz also missed 14 games in 2014 due to toe and left ankle injuries that both required surgery. He was entering the final year of a three-year, $17.5 million contract and the Giants, per Over The Cap, save $4.5 million against the cap by letting him go. Then knee and ankle injuries limited to five games last season.

In 2015, Schwartz started the first 10 games at right guard before moving to left guard at Washington on November 29.
