Japan’s Cinema Today are reporting that Kitano Takeshi – the iconic director and performer – has joined the cast of the Rupert Sanders directed, live action adaptation of classic anime and manga Ghost In The Shell. He’ll be playing Daisuke Aramaki, the head of Public Security Section 9 and the highest-ranking member of Ghost in the Shell’s team of heroes.
Property concept: The story follows a female special ops cyborg who leads a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 for Hanka Robotics.
Are you excited about the casting of Takeshi Kitano in Ghost in the Shell?
Ghost in the Shell will be a remake of the original anime film of the same name.
The film is produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul.
The last Hollywood film Takeshi worked on was the 1995 sci-fi (also Cyberpunk!) film starring Keanu Reeves, Johnny Mnemonic.

“This film will be stylish and entertaining, which is completely different from the type of movies I direct myself”. The decision to install such a high-profile Japanese filmmaker and actor in the key role of Aramaki is certainly a step in the right direction to diversifying the cast.
