“Happy Crimble, with love from us to you”, The Beatles said on their website, referring to a term popularised by John Lennon to describe Christmas. This step by the steaming services is expected to churn out better revenues for companies like Spotify and Apple Music. The Fab Four announced their entry into the world of streaming with a video that reflects on their entire recording career and trumpets “The Beatles Now Streaming”. The Beatles’ music will be available on the free and premium versions of services that have both.
The streaming companies had to face severe backlash for barring the albums by the British band from their services. And they are the biggest-selling act in the U.S., with 178million sales. It is being said that the streaming announcement came just five years after the Liverpool-born group’s back catalogue was first made available for purchase on Apple’s iTunes.
The streaming of The Beatles’ albums and collections will be readily available to Google Play Music subscribers on any device into which their Google account has been signed. Streaming services such as Spotify have been on the rise since 2007. Many musicians are definitely beginning to adapt the changes of the industry.
In his year-end letter to employees of Universal Music Group, Chief Executive Lucian Grainge noted the partnerships the label had struck this year with brands including American Airlines and Marriott to help its artists achieve commercial success. Spotify paid Led Zeppelin millions of dollars in 2013 for the exclusive right to stream their music, according to a person familiar with the matter, an arrangement that expired in early 2015.
