Back to school is a busy time for children and families.

During this busy time, please be extra cautious in traffic. Leave pedestrians with plenty of room to cross safely. Keep in mind that fines are doubled in school zones when signs are out. Stop your vehicle far enough from the bus to allow children the necessary space to safely enter and exit the bus.

– Phone a friend: Have kids walk to school with a relative, friend or neighbor. If there isn’t, find an alternative way for your child to get to and from school. This can help rule out any potential medical conditions that may place your young athlete at risk. Look for age-appropriate equipment and hazards, such as rusted or broken equipment and risky surfaces. Kids should cross the street at the corner or crosswalk if there is one, but it’s also important for drivers to watch out for young people who may be thinking about getting to school.

The Safe Kids Carroll County Coalition knows that your students are getting ready for the new school year and wants to remind you of how safe school buses really are. When must a driver stop for a stopped school bus?

Mayo said the buses, drivers and routes are ready for school to begin, although the district now does not have any reserve drivers.

“Officials say the previous system of flashing red lights was sometimes confusing, especially when the flashing started while a bus was still in motion”, according to a news release from Kobussen Buses of Brodhead.
