Beauty and the Beast roars to $63.8 million on Friday

I recommend you go watch this enchanting musical that is very handsome and just a tad bit beastly. “[The studio] realised there was a big new audience for musical fantasy movies”, remembers director Bill Condon, referring to his experience with getting his remake of Beauty and the Beast, which released today.

The remake was entertaining, charming and witty.

To be totally honest, I gave this flick the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!” the moment Emma Watson smiled and sang at the beginning of the film. There is not a lot revealed that has to do with the plot, but some moments from the flick will be revealed, so, if you don’t want to know, then stop reading now. Written by Josh Groban, the new original song titled “Evermore” is performed by the Stevens, who plays the Beast. Some Reddit users have said they haven’t searched for the movie, so its addition to their “My Day” query is surprising.

“I think it’s kind of one of these films that’s just really universal”. While Ewan McGregor’s french accent did seem a little off as Lumiere, it worked.

Though it’s never said how much time Belle spends at the castle, it’s clearly more than two or three days. “This movie moved me when I was 21, and I first saw it”, said Audra McDonald who appears as Madame Garderobe. He asked if she would recommend kidnapping as a good dating strategy. The new songs written specifically for this movie by the original film’s composers Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, are welcomed additions, specifically “Evermore” and “Days in the Sun”. Her first night in the castle ended with the Beast saving her life from a pack of wolves. Because you’ve seen the movie – it’s such a teeny thing, and it’s been overblown. Every part of this film was breathtaking from the scenery to the lovely music.

The star power Disney has attracted to the live-action revivals also broadens their appeal.

Count Hanney among the fans of the classic Disney tale. And if Beauty and the Beast 2.0’s biggest crime is being perhaps too faithful to the original, at least it acknowledges in the end that Adam (Adam, was it?) is sexier as a beast than a prince.
