Beavers have something to build on from Civil War

Oregon posted its eighth straight win in the Civil War series and kept alive its chances of playing in a New Year’s Six bowl by beating Oregon State, 52-42, on Friday afternoon before 57,814 in Autzen Stadium. Oregon State went 98 yards on its next drive before Collins scored his third touchdown of the game on a 9-yard run to get the Beavers within 31-21 with 2:16 left in the third quarter. Oregon State is having a tough season with a 2-9 record, with the Beavers having lost eight games in a row, but now they look for the upset. OR defensive backs could not catch the 237-pound redshirt freshman on his fourth-quarter burst that cut the lead to 45-42. “It was a good feeling and it was something they can build on”. While he has just three 100-yard receiving games on the 2015 campaign, two of ’em have come in Oregon’s last two games. Running back Royce Freeman rushed for 167 yards and scored twice. Nick Mitchell, also a redshirt freshman, later played himself into the backup role.

“Seth’s gonna be huge part part of this offense as we move forward in a lot of different ways”, OSU coach Gary Andersen said. “You could see how dynamic he is”, said Andersen, in his first season with the Beavers after taking over for Mike Riley. Wide receiver Victor Bolden returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown that got the Beavers within 38-35 with 10:09 left in the game.

Opening day starting quarterback Seth Collins, who played off the bench for OSU on Friday after missing several games, ran for two touchdowns in the third quarter.

Vernon Adams threw for 366 yards and those three touchdowns to Addison as the Ducks won their sixth straight. It took another Addison touchdown for the Ducks to put it away.

After Freeman’s 19-yard scoring run made it 38-21 for the Ducks, McMaryion’s 6-yard scoring run closed the gap again for Oregon State and set up the final quarter.
