Kevin Magnussen has walked away from a huge crash in the Belgium Grand Prix that caused the race to be red flagged.
The Dane lost control of his vehicle as he crested the fast uphill sweep of the Eau Rouge corner and slammed violently into the barriers.
Sky Sports commentators said the crash happened at about 150 miles per hour, at which point, Magnussen became a passenger in his own auto.
Renault have struggled for pace this season on their return to the sport as a fully-fledged manufacturer. Magnussen’s left ankle was injured on impact, and he has been sent to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Renault confirmed Magnussen was fine after he was pictured walking away from the auto but the red flag came out to halt the race as the tyre wall was damaged so badly.
Incredibly Lewis Hamilton was up to fifth in his Mercedes – despite the fact he started from the very back of the grid.

The team are running an outdated auto, having bought out the Lotus outfit previous year, and Magnussen’s sixth place inMay’s Russian Grand Prix is their only result in the points thus far.
