Belgium has remained on high alert following deadly March bombings claimed by the Islamic State group in Brussels and a wave of deadly attacks in the last month in France and Germany, some of them claimed by IS.

“Within the terrorism case lead by the federal prosecutors, on yesterday evening [Friday] Mons federal police conducted seven searches in the region of Mons, while Liege federal police carried out a search in Liege under the warrant of the court investigator specializing on terrorism”, the statement read. It said the two suspects were identified only as Noureddine H. and Hamza H.

The French version of the statement referenced “planned attacks”, according to AFP. It was not immediately clear if any weapons were found in any of the searches.

For the time being there was no connection with the attacks at Brussels airport and the metro on March 22, in which 32 people were killed, the prosecution office said.
