The man arrested, a Belgian national born in 1993 and identified only as Ayoub B., was detained Wednesday following a search in the Molenbeek neighborhood of Brussels, where some of the Paris attackers lived.
Last year’s New Year night Dubai has broke the world record for largest and longest fireworks display in the world, this year again Dubai is all set to make the unbeatable record of super celebrations while welcoming 2016 on the New Year’s Eve.
“We are not aware of any threat at this time that we deem credible”, he said, though reports of threats have surfaced.
The men’s lawyers said their full names are Said Saouti and Mohammed Karay, whose arrests were announced Tuesday following police raids in and around Brussels and the eastern city of Liege.
The six new suspects were detained following seven police raids in and around the Belgian capital in which computer equipment, mobile phones and “airsoft material” were seized.
Three of the six were released later on Thursday.
Security is being stepped up in other major European cities ahead of New Year celebrations, including Paris, London, Berlin and Moscow, with officials wary of possible terror plots.
“The people of Paris and France need this symbolic passage into the New Year”, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo told the weekly Journal du Dimanche.
Millions of people welcomed in the New Year on Friday, although tightened security put a damper on festivities in Europe, where Germany evacuated train stations over an imminent security threat, while a huge hotel fire sparked panic in Dubai.
While earlier this week local police arrested two men with connections with Belgians who have traveled to Syria to fight the Islamic State group. However, Parisian authorities have cancelled the annual fireworks display on the site while the 11,000 police, soldiers and firefighters will patrol the French capital.
In Turkey, meanwhile, officials said two Islamic State suspects, reportedly both Turks, had been planning to stage suicide bombings in the center of the capital Ankara on new Year’s Eve.
Up to 5,000 police will be in the area, with explosive ordnance disposal experts making a sweep ahead of time. “This New Year’s Eve I am going to dance and party until the cock crows”, said 35-year-old Franklyn Smith.
