Belief In Ghosts On the Rise
How often is it that you hear some friend of relative of yours narrating a paranormal experience that they or someone they know have had. Well, it seems like a large number of people all over the world share this trait. Recently, a survey conducted in the UK revealed that a large section of the populace believe in ghosts, primarily because they have experienced it firsthand. It is strange when you take into consideration the fact that no one in recorded history has been able to conclusively prove that ghosts exist.

The fact that in recent years TV shows dedicated to proving the existence and hunting down ghosts have risen in number, has certainly helped perpetuate the idea of the paranormal. In the UK something called ‘ghost tourism’ has begun, wherein people visit places like Blickling Hall, in Norfolk, Dunster Castle, in Somerset, and Dover Castle, in Kent as they all said to be haunted.
While talking about this issue Dave Wood the chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap) was quoted as saying: “The rise in the numbers believing in ghosts is a surprise, and is significantly higher than what we consider to have been the historical average.” The reason for this rise in belief many would say is primarily because of the media giving anything paranormal-related a lot of coverage.
Dave Wood on his part believes that “in a society which has seen economic uncertainty and is dominated by information and technology, more people are seeking refuge in the paranormal, whereas in the past they might have sought that in religion.” There is no denying the fact that we as human beings have always felt that there is more to our world than meets the eye and believing in ghosts is probably a manifestation of that belief.

Great men down history have given accounts of their brush with the paranormal. Winston Churchill is said to have seen the apparition of Abraham Lincoln, during his stay in the White House. Strangely enough, the number of UFO sightings has reduced drastically in the past few years. Could it be that these ghosts people are seeing are actually aliens or beings from a different dimension? It’s great fun to speculate and cook up things, when at the present time it seems virtually impossible to conclusively prove anything.
