Beloved golf great Arnold Palmer died of complications from heart problems
“(2/2) It’s hard to imagine golf without you or anyone more important to the game than the King”, Woods tweeted.

Within hours of the announcement that Palmer had passed, the internet was abuzz with tributes and memories of the man who lent a commoner’s touch to the country club sport of golf.
Incensed, Palmer headed to the first tee and drove the green on the par-4 opening hole to make birdie.
‘I’m gonna fill a super soaker full of lemonade, Karl’s gonna fill one with iced tea and we’re gonna Arnold Palmer Lenny when he walks in!’ a gleeful Homer tells Marge.
Tiger Woods said two years ago that golf wouldn’t be as popular as it is nowwithout Palmer.
As if there were any doubt: There is no other King.
Tiger Woods, who has won the second-most major championships with 14, said he was deeply saddened by the news on Palmer, who died Sunday at 87. Johnson added that Palmer was admitted to the hospital Thursday for some cardiovascular work and weakened over the last few days.
“A lot of us knew Arnie hadn’t been doing well for a long time”, McIlroy said. It would leave him at 280. But his appearance alone invigorated the British Open, which Americans had been ignoring for years.
The exchange with Drum “set the fire off inside, not that it wasn’t there”, Palmer said. “I tried for a long time to stop that and”, he said, pausing to shrug, “there was no point”. In 2005, Palmer announced his retirement after being disqualified from participating in the U.S. Open. I knew that I could always call him for advice, and I looked forward to seeing him at Bay Hill and the Masters. The match pitted a graying millionaire playboy against the upstart Palmer in what many dubbed a battle of the classes. His first tour win came in the 1955 Canadian Open, and his last tour victory came in the 1973 Bob Hope Desert Classic – a tournament he won five times.
Turns pro in 1954 and signs with Wilson Sporting Goods.
“Arnold transcended the game of golf”.
Palmer arrived at the Masters with eight titles but very little professional major championship experience. A third-round 68 vaulted him into a tie for the lead with Sam Snead.
Hits final ceremonial tee shot at Masters in 2015. Palmer believed he was entitled to relief because the ball was embedded, and Venturi agreed. He ruled Palmer had to play without relief. With powerful hands wrapped around the golf club, Palmer would slash at the ball with all of his might, then twist that muscular neck and squint to see where it went.
Palmer, known as “The King”, captured seven major tournaments during his illustrious career, taking The Masters four times (in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964), the British Open twice (in 1961 and 1962) and the US Open once (in 1960).
Palmer was the sole leader after all four rounds and was the second wire-to-wire victor at the Masters, following Craig Wood in 1941. Subsequent wire-to-wire winners were Nicklaus in 1972, Raymond Floyd in 1976, and Jordan Spieth in 2015. He was the first American to win the Claret Jug since Ben Hogan in 1953. In 1956, Palmer won three more tournaments and four more the year after that, according to YourDictionary.

A successful businessman, Palmer owned a golf course design firm and a golf resort in Orlando, Florida, and was considered a pioneer in sports marketing. He finished at 12 under par, six shots ahead of runner-up Kel Nagle – and at least 13 strokes better than anyone else in the field.
