The Longhorns had 107 wins while BEVO XIV, originally named Sunrise Studly, was the reigning mascot.
Bevo XIV, the Longhorn mascot for the University of Texas at Austin, is being put out to pasture.
“Bevo XIV has served the university and the Longhorns family extremely well in his tenure”, interim Men’s Athletics Director Mike Perrin said in a press release.
Texas expects to have its new mascot on the sidelines for the start of the 2016 season, including Texas’ annual Thanksgiving Day game which will mark the 100th anniversary of Bevo’s first appearance.
As far as Bevo XIV is concerned, he will now be staying with his caretakers/owners, John & Betty Baker, on their ranch. “He truly embraced his role and loved engaging with people at games and special events”. “We all have warm memories of him as he heads in to retirement”.
Bevo XIV had been the Texas mascot since 2004.
Bevo XIV was around for Texas’ back-to-back Rose Bowl victories in 2005 and 2006, including its BCS national championship in the second Rose Bowl appearance. “He brings joy to thousands of children, fans and alumni”, said Howard Nirken, a founding member of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association and former UT student body president.

Bevo XIV will now return to the ranch where he was born, just as his predecessor Bevo XIII had done.
