Ben Carson’s campaign manager, spokesman quit GOP campaign
Communications director Doug Watts announced his and campaign manager Barry Bennett’s resignations effective immediately in a statement, saying they respect the retired neurosurgeon and have enjoyed helping him reach “top tier status” in the crowded Republican field.

According to several U.S. news outlets, Bennett and Watts quit in part over concerns about the influence of Carson’s longtime friend Armstrong Williams, who doesn’t have an official role on the campaign but frequently has Carson’s ear.
As they have worked to slow his decline, Carson’s team could not seem to agree on a strategy. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., at 18 percent.
He now places fourth in many national opinion polls after surging into the second slot behind the front-runner, real estate mogul Donald Trump, in the autumn.
But the meaning of those numbers had been lost as Carson struggled. “With the exception of what happened after the terrorist attacks in Paris … they’ve done very well for a long time”.

Last week, Carson gave separate interviews to the Associated Press and the Washington Post, the Republican presidential candidate said he was “looking at every aspect of the campaign right now” and that “every job is on the table” in his campaign. That’s the narrative that is out there. “I’m sure they’ll figure it out”. Williams, who has known Carson for more than two decades, thought Bennett’s approach did not bring out the candidate’s strengths. Carson has followed the same pattern. He did not learn of Bennett’s resignation specifically until late Thursday morning, while on the phone with The Washington Post, when his other cellphone rang with a call from Carson. He raised almost $21 million in campaign funds from July to September, by far the most of any Republican candidate. “Dr. Carson has expressed a little frustration here and there”. And while Carson has struggled to speak in detail about policy issues in the candidate debates, he has not made any major gaffes during those sessions. It helps that Carson’s Iowa campaign director, Ryan Rhodes, will remain in his position and perhaps take on greater responsibilities, Taylor said. I will be nowhere near the Oval Office when Dr. Carson is elected president. Lisa Cohen, Carson’s deputy campaign manager, announced her own departure shortly after the initial shake-up was revealed. Polls suggest Republican voters still view him favorably and that he has some room to rebound, particularly in states like Iowa and SC, where the electorate is full of evangelical Christians.
