Williams, who says he spoke with Carson after the candidate spoke with Bennett, described Carson as “calm, confident, reassured and ready to move forward”. Bennett, suspecting that Carson was once again following Williams’s advice instead of his, quit on the spot.
Driving the sudden departures were long-simmering tensions between Bennett and Armstrong Williams, Carson’s confidant and business adviser.
“This allows Dr. Carson a fresh start”, Williams said. “I’m sure they’ll figure it out.”…
Williams told CNN earlier this month he believes the campaign needs to step up its efforts in briefing Carson before public appearances.
Carson’s foreign policy credentials were called into question, especially after he repeatedly mispronounced Hamas as “hummus” while addressing a group of prominent Republican Jews.

“Watts added that both he and Bennett wish “[Carson] and his campaign the best of luck”. Carson’s team has done a bang-up job not only of finding small donors – they’ve received contributions from 600,000 individual entities since March – but of finding ones who typically don’t make political donations.
