Ben Carson tops GOP presidential field in Colorado

The poll – a year before the general election – represents a snapshot in time, rather than a reliable indicator of how Colorado will vote in November 2016.

Watch out, Hillary: A new poll suggests the Democratic front runner is way behind top Republicans in Colorado, a state Barack Obama carried twice in his own presidential runs. In fact, Clinton may even be losing to Donald Trump by double digits.

Marco Rubio bests Mrs. Clinton 52 percentage points to 36 percentage points in a theoretical head-to-head match-up in the key swing state, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson topples her by 14 percentage points, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 14%, Carly Fiorina at 5%, Kentucky Sen. The rest of the candidates received 1 percent or less. Eleven percent of GOP voters in Colorado said they are undecided.

A deeper look at the numbers shows that Carson is winning among the voters who self-identified as “very conservative” or evangelical, though Cruz is galvanizing those who align with the Tea Party.

More than half of Democratic voters in Colorado – 55 percent – said they would support Clinton while just over a quarter – 27 percent – would support Sen. That is by far the highest number in that category, eclipsing Jeb Bush’s 21 percent. Hickenlooper won by 3 points. Her changing story regarding her use of private server during her tenure as secretary of state is largely why voters gave her her lowest honesty score ever this August, a mere 34 percent, and most people chose “liar” when asked what word best describes her. The poll also surveyed 404 Democrats with a 4.9 percentage point margin of error.

But against the GOP candidates, Clinton’s numbers slipped significantly from Quinnipiac’s poll in July.
