Ben Foster says drug-taking for Lance Armstrong film ‘damaged’ his body

Starring the brilliant Ben Foster as Armstrong, The Program also stars Irish actor Chris O’Dowd as Walsh himself, following the journalist as he hunts for the crucial evidence he needs to expose Armstrong.

The Program is released in cinemas on 16 October.

Despite the toll it has taken on his body, Foster insists the decision to take the drugs was all his own, saying director Stephen Frears had no idea about it until after filming was complete.

“The Tour de France is a wicked sport in the way that it’s not just man against man or woman against woman, it’s not flesh against flesh”.

Foster’s values include doing whatever he can to coax out a more realistic performance. “As actors you find moments to keep in line with what the day is demanding”.
