Ben & Jerry’s co-founder unveils ‘Bernie’s Yearning’ ice cream flavor

It is, Cohen told MSNBC, created to show that “the huge majority of economic gains that have gone to the top 1% since the Great Recession”. But don’t go running out to your local grocery store just yet- the Bernie-themed Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor unfortunately isn’t becoming a part of the official line.

Cohen, the Vermont native and longtime Sanders fan, then took the next step and actually made 40 pints of it in his kitchen, he said in a website post announcing the flavor.

A contest is being held for the members of the public to win the rest. Among many examples are introducing an “I Dough, I Dough” ice cream flavor to celebrate the Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage, selling a T-shirt in support of Black Lives Matter’s “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” campaign, and creating a “Save Our Swirl” ice cream in support of global warming awareness. “Let the ice cream soften up a bit, mix the pieces around-and there you have it, Bernie’s Yearning”.

It’s branded as “Ben’s Best” and doesn’t include a Ben & Jerry’s logo. But he noted that his company with fellow co-founder Jerry Greenfield is not directly involved with the flavor.

It has a photo of the smiling politician known for his sometimes unkempt white hair, and underneath it reads: “Open Joyfully, Political Revolution Inside”.

Ben Cohen, who, like Sanders, was born in Brooklyn but made a name for himself in Vermont, revealed his new flavor on Monday. “We’ve seen him in action and we believe in him”, Cohen wrote at Berniesyearning.com.

The test of “Bernie’s Yearning” is likely to be the candidate’s reaction.
