Ben & Jerry’s introduces non-dairy lineup

If you’re one of the many people in the world who are lactose intolerant or have a hard time digesting dairy products, but love ice cream and are chronically depressed that you can’t indulge in this cooling, sugary treat, Ben & Jerry’s has a fix for you. The company announced this week that it is introducing non-dairy ice cream that is certified vegan. & Cookies, are new to the brand’s lineup. Chocolate Fudge BRownie includes non-dairy fudge brownies and Coffee Caramel Fudge is a non-dairy exclusive that mixes caramel swirls with fudge chunks in a coffee non-dairy dessert. P.B.

The company actually isn’t allowed to call it “ice cream”, officially, so they’ve gone with the clunkier (chunkier?) descriptor of “non-dairy frozen dessert”. The scientific community is in agreement that the world’s meat and dairy consumption harms the planet, from carbon dioxide emissions to the amount of water required to raise the animals.

The new options are meant to appeal to a customer base that’s either vegan or chooses not to consume dairy products, two groups that have been very vocal with Ben & Jerry’s about their preferences, says spokeswoman Lindsay Bumps. & Cookies will also be offered by Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops nationwide.

The others are based on best-selling flavors, Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
