A clearly exasperated Cumberbatch, following a weekend showing of “Hamlet”, met with fans outside London’s Barbican Theater, where he begged them to stop taking videos of him on their phones mid-show.

Benedict Cumberbatch called out his own overzealous fans last Saturday night following his performance as the lead in Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in London.

“I don’t want that to happen, that’s a terrible way to police what is a wonderful thing”.

Wow, wow, wow, Benedict is such a serious artist that he isn’t even familiar with the concept of a smart phone. “This isn’t me blaming you”.

The actor, now starring in the fastest-selling play in British history, says that audience member cameras make it hard for him to deliver a good performance.

Cumberbatch said staff at the performing arts centre would be getting strict on the use of cameras, adding that they’re bringing in new “devices” from Monday that will have “people detected and evicted”. “I don’t use social media and I’d really appreciate it if you did tweet, blog, and hashtag the shit out of this”. “It’s been one damn thing after another”, he said as he bemoaned the filming: “I could see a red light about the third row”.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch’s “Hamlet” performance, which started last Wednesday, August 5, will be screened in movie theaters as well beginning October 15, reported Entertainment Weekly in another story.

The show is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.

Current performances are still in the preview phase of the play.

He said: “What I really want to do is try and enlist you”.

The actor is treading the boards as the king of Denmark in William Shakespeare’s legendary play, but fans hoping to meet their idol during his return to the stage will be disappointed.
