Bengals beat Jets 23-22 in opening day win

Fitzpatrick, like Taylor, was eventually handed a new contract over the summer and remains capable of more than the odd aberration but there were enough positives to get them the vote on this occasion. But the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver might have reduced the Jets’ cornerback to mortal status. They racked up seven sacks of Bengals play-caller Andy Dalton and limited their rushing game to just 56 total yards.

After the game was over, Revis recognized that he did not get his job done. “This one was big”.

The backbreaker was an 11-yard gain with a minute remaining that put the Bengals in range for a game-winning field goal. Folk, however, missed the first extra point of his career.

Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard were a factor to a point.

“They’re good up front”, said Dalton of the Jets.

Mike Nugent was both the hero and villain in the game going 3 for 4 in field goals.

“We were just sloppy down there, ” Marshall said of the Jets red-zone struggles.

What was the most important play of yesterday’s game?

The Jets and the Giants entered this season will extremely similar expectations.

Big plays availableAs outlined in Bills Advantages, New York’s pass defense, much like last season, is still vulnerable to big plays. It was Zampese’s first game as coordinator after spending 13 seasons as Bengals quarterbacks coach, including the past five years helping to mentor Dalton. Ryan Fitzpatrick is completing 54.3 percent of his passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Bernard had five carries for 25 yards. He extended plays with his feet, escaped sacks and had precision accuracy all over the field. Thirteen of Dalton’s 30 passes went his way. He was sacked once and didn’t turn it over. Guys are aware of what happened previous year.

The Buffalo Bills (0-1) are coming from a 13-7 low scoring loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Larry Fitzgerald lead the Cardinals with 8 receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Perhaps more telling in terms of just how disruptive his presence is was the fact that on each of the first three sacks he wasn’t involved in, he drew a double-team to create room for the player who finished off the play. Last year, Peterson went on to lead the National Football League in rushing with 1,485 yards. Ryan Tannehill finished the game 16-29 for 186 yards. That’s when Wilson went to work, playing on a right ankle that twisted badly in the third quarter as he was sacked by Ndamukong Suh.

Bowles bristled Monday when asked about his secondary’s subpar performance in the Jets’ 23-22 loss to the Bengals on Sunday, telling reporters that he didn’t “have time to go over” what transpired less than 24 hours earlier. Wilson hit Baldwin in the corner of the end zone to give Seattle the lead.

It was actually the second time in two seasons the Bengals have converted a pivotal field goal in such a situation. Detroit won for only the second time in Indy, and it came 37 seconds after it looked like Andrew Luck had rallied the Colts for an improbable last-minute victory.

Those shortcomings were particularly costly in the fourth quarter, when the Jets and the ball inside the 10-yard-line twice – and as close as the 1-yard-line – and couldn’t come away with a touchdown.
