Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict suspended first three games next season

According to Jim Colony of 93.7 The Fan (h/t Colin Dunlap), Steelers guard David DeCastro also said Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict spit on him in the midst of Pittsburgh’s 18-16 victory.

Burfict was penalized on the play, which helped move Pittsburgh closer to field-goal range with the Bengals holding a 16-15 lead.

Burfict has previously been fined for safety-related violations four times in 2015, including a $50,000 fine for unnecessarily contacting an opponent who was out of the play in Cincinnati’s Week 17 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Burfict was suspended the first three games of next season for the hit.

It would be the first suspension of Burfict’s career.

Steelers guard Ramon Foster confirmed Vontaze Burfict spit on guard David DeCastro during the game, but said Foster wasn’t the only Bengals player to commit the act.

Brown suffered a concussion on Ben Roethlisberger’s last throw of the game vs. the Cincinnati Bengals last Saturday. Other players may incur discipline for their actions during the heated game between the AFC North rivals, though Burfict flagrant disregard of another players health and personal safety was by far the most egregious and outrageous violation of National Football League rules. He’s had three penalties this season for unnecessary roughness. “Let’s not take things out of context, and understand it. Let’s judge the body of work”.

“I’ll go in tomorrow with the intent to see what I can do”, Roethlisberger said.

Roethlisberger wouldn’t speculate on his status for the game, although Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said he expects Big Ben to go and that the Broncos are planning accordingly.

Panthers’ Stewart hopes to play • Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart told the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer he plans to play Sunday, against the Seahawks, after being sidelined for three weeks because of a sprained foot.

There was no penalty flag at the time.

“We want those guys to be there”, cornerback Aqib Talib said. “I know he was faking it (the injury)”, an irate Adam Jones said on the “Dan Patrick Show” earlier on Monday.
