Benghazi hearings: Hillary Clinton given another ‘pass’

As 2012 unfolded, Ambassador Chris Stevens and others in Libya repeatedly told the State Department that threats were increasing.

Quoting a Wall Street Journal article: “In the email, Mrs. Clinton tells her daughter – who used the email pseudonym “Diane Reynolds” – that the attacks were undertaken by an “Al Qaida-like group”.

What was supposed to be a search for justice, quickly devolved into a full on verbal ad hominem attack on Clinton. After about 30 minutes, it was evident that this trial was going further and further away from the search for justice.

O’REILLY: Well, then, how can you say it didn’t hurt her? There is no doubt that this is what Hillary’s most ardent defenders – several of whom served on that Benghazi panel – are determined to do regarding the actions and legacy of the former secretary of state.

She has accepted responsibility both for what happened and for what didn’t work systemically under her watch, which is about all she can do short of stepping into a live volcano.

She is a very cunning and clever person. You don’t gain as much power and influence as she has based only on a name.

On the night of the attacks, Clinton remained at home and did not contact Defense Secretary Leon Panetta or the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Around 10 p.m., she did call Obama, who remained in the White House that night and flew off the next morning to Las Vegas for a campaign event. Apparently, everyone, including Trump himself who has continuously scrutinized her decisions under the Obama administration, had to give her credit for the way she handled herself during the time. And thus, she solidified her victory in the hearing. “And so it seems to be a lack of interest…” Nor did she demur when President Obama was still decrying the video in his speech to the United Nations September 25.

During a particularly nasty line of questioning by Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., conservative Commentary Magazine editor John Podhoretz tweeted, “Why doesn’t Pompeo just go over and swear her in for president now – if he goes on like this he’ll practically get her elected”. Along with various questions about the Republican candidates, it asked voters if they would either “support or oppose impeaching [Clinton] the day she takes office”.

Of course, it is not surprising that almost all news sources covered Clinton’s testimony – it is a controversial issue involving controversial politicians in an unexpectedly contested primary. “She was not getting that information, she wasn’t even getting information by email about our compound being attacked twice in 2012”.

Is she telling the truth? And yes, the mainstream media, which is already in the tank for the Democrats, is no doubt willing to repeat it endlessly. Why did she respond that he should continue emailing her? “She’s had problems with her campaign generating that enthusiasm and a sense of connection”.

“And there wasn’t any rational argument – because I was in on a few of those discussions, on both “don’t ask, don’t tell” and on – on DOMA, where both the president, his advisers and, occasionally, I, would chime in and talk about, “You can’t be serious”. Did Clinton see this one?
