Benintendi’s catch helps Price, Red Sox tie for 1st place
When Andrew Benintendi was called up from Double A Portland earlier this month, Red Sox fans were eager to see one of the MLB’s top prospects in action.

The 22-year-old now has eight multi-hit showings in his first 20 games, but Tuesday’s performance was important for another reason: He finally got his picture taken.
Gonzalez started it with a three-run shot in the first inning off Homer Bailey (2-2), who had his worst showing since returning from Tommy John surgery.
It’s going to be tough for anyone to top that.
Yordano Ventura pitched six strong innings as the Royals made it nine straight wins, edging the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Tuesday.
With that in mind, Cash was asked if the game was a test for Snell, who was making his 13th big-league start.
“I had a lot of good things happen”, said Price, the 2012 AL Cy Young Award victor who helped the Rays make the playoffs four times before being traded in 2014. “In a three-run game, that late, to take away a two-run homer, it’s a huge difference in the ballgame”. The win pushed Boston into a tie for first place in the American League East with the Toronto Blue Jays while the Rays fell for the second time in eight games. Barnes wasn’t able to keep up the shutout when he allowed a 2 run homer to Evan Longoria, but that would be the only runs he would allow.
David Price finally beat the Rays at Tropicana Field on Monday, allowing a season-low two hits in eight scoreless innings in the Red Sox’s 6-2 victory at Tropicana Field. Ortiz went from first-to-third on the single and then he scored on an errant throw from right fielder Steven Souza Jr.to third base.
Rendon made it 2-1 Nationals when, leading off the fourth, he homered to left-center on an 0-1 pitch.
“I knew that I was filling in for a couple of guys that are out right now”, Buchholz said, via the Providence Journal.
Mookie Betts threw out the speedy Kevin Kiermaier (12 steals) when he attempted to turn a double down the right field line in the eighth inning with one out into a triple.
Control issues were only a sporadic occurrence for Owens in his debut season with the Red Sox.
“Just tried to make the most of it”, Buchholz said. Archer gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.
In the fifth, the Rays got their second base runner of the night on a one out walk to Matt Duffy, but like Forsythe in the fourth, he never got off first base. Nova tossed a complete game, allowing just one run and one walk while striking out six.

Chris Archer drops to 0-4 vs. Of course, he’s got a 5.18 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 107 2/3 innings, so the Sox would be justified in sending him back to the bullpen as well. He’s 0-3 against Boston this year, 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA in 14 career starts. He leads the majors in losses, but is 3-4 with a 3.06 ERA in seven outings since the All-Star break.
