Benitez stays in charge of Real Madrid for now

A statement from the club confirmed that Perez, who has drawn criticism in recent weeks for the imbalanced squad created by his Galactico policy, would face the media at 8:30pm United Kingdom time.

Real are now second in La Liga standings, six points behind Barcelona.

The former Liverpool manager is under intense pressure following the defeat in Saturday’s clasico, just five months after taking over at the club.

In the aftermath of the humiliating defeat Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Benitez was a “condemned man”. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told the club’s president Florentino Perez that he will leave the club if Benitez is not sacked.

Real’s next game is at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday, which is followed by a Primera Division trip to sixth-placed Eibar on Sunday. I’m the coach of Castilla and Benitez is in charge of the first team.

However, there is the possibility that the Spaniard will be given the full backing of the president in the wake of the defeat, a move that could make things even worse for Benítez given the level of dissatisfaction with Perez among fans at the moment. “At the end of last season I felt that I was still lacking something to take charge of the first team”.

Ancelotti added: “I’ve spoken with him [Ronaldo] and he assures me he has never said anything against Benitez”.

“The important thing is to be happy day to day with what I’m doing, my present is Castilla”.

Real Madrid will hold an official press conference on Monday night
