Berahino depends on Peace – Pulis

Berahino was omitted from West Brom’s match-day squad to face Bristol City on Tuesday night due to an illness despite manager Tony Pulis declaring that the striker was up for sale at the weekend.

The report also claims that Berahino would prefer a move to London, but both Chelsea and Tottenham are reluctant to pay £30m for the unproven 22-year-old.

Liverpool and Tottenham’s respective wins in their FA Cup replays take the plaudits in the papers, but with it being January, there’s still plenty of transfer chatter.

With Newcastle United reportedly the front-runners for his signature, Tony Pulis says Saido Berahino’s future rests with Jeremy Peace.

“The chairman will decide whether Saido goes or stays”, he said. “The chairman will make decisions, financially”.

“If he hadn’t been ill he’d have been playing”, he said. “He’s not been well, he’s picked up a bug the same as Lambert and a few of the other lads over the past few weeks”.

“But we want to keep Saido if we can”.

“I think he has been hung out to dry a little bit for me”, added Sinclair.

Whilst there have been widespread reports in recent days that Mike Ashley is prepared to make Berahino, Newcastle’s biggest ever signing with a transfer fee in the region of £20m or so.

It is believed that Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is hopeful that an £18m bid would be enough to prise Berahino away from West Brom’s clutches, though Tottenham would more than likely have a say in proceedings regarding their main summer target.
