Bernie has his biggest lead over Hillary yet

The candidates promised both more gun control and higher taxes, the opposite of what Republican candidates advocate. Clinton has a comfortable 64 percent to 24 percent lead with voters over 50, who compose the majority of the primary electorate. Sanders is polling at 36 percent while former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is flailing with an abysmal one percent of the party vote. The previous poll, taken in the wake of terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California, found that one in four likely Democratic voters said that foreign policy and national security were their primary concern.

Clinton made her pitch in Toledo, Iowa, imploring voters to pay careful attention to what is possible – and what is not – as they decide whether to support her or Sanders’ bid.

The Jan. 18 King Day rally at the State House was an important stop for the candidates, an opportunity to address a large, mostly black crowd that is likely interested in the political process.
