Sanders and his team argue that Clinton is drilling down on the guns issue because she’s losing ground to him in many polls and doesn’t seem quite as inevitable as she once did.

“She is wrong. And the facts tell us she is wrong”, Sanders said.
He also said Clinton, who has coalesced much of the Democratic establishment’s support, had a high bar to meet as the perceived favorite to win her party’s nomination.
Sanders was speaking to voters in Iowa where a new poll out Sunday showed him in a virtual tie with Clinton.
The Sanders campaign has been more combative in recent days and willing to engage in the kind of politics the candidate has largely eschewed.
In New Hampshire, Sanders is ahead of Clinton by six points, at 50% to Clinton’s 46%, with a 4.8 point margin of error. Sanders holds a double-digit edge over Trump in both states, for example, while Clinton has a far narrower lead.
According to Mark Murray of NBC News, “Among the larger universe of potential Iowa caucus-goers, Trump…leads Cruz by two points, 26 percent to 24 percent, suggesting that a larger turnout could benefit Trump in the state”.
Later, Clinton went after Sanders on gun control – pointing out again that she voted against immunity for gun manufacturers in lawsuits in the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act”, while he voted for it. Sanders has since said that he is willing to reconsider liability for gun manufacturers.

On Thursday, the campaign tore into Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, tweeting out recent polls that show Sanders beating Trump by a healthy margin in a theoretical general election matchups. Supporters say if Sanders is the general election candidate, that energy will translate into victories for down-ballot Democrats as well. Biden’s endorsement would be highly coveted by any of the Democratic candidates.

The Clinton campaign isn’t oblivious to Sanders’ challenge. “I mean for those of you who have ever thought about running for president, take heart”. Even if Sanders’s success only endures through early February, they say, he has made a lasting impression on the race. Weighing in on the Democratic race he nearly joined, Biden said he never felt Clinton was the prohibitive favorite to win.
