Bernie Sanders gains momentum for NY primary at Harlem rally
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders speaks to reporters about the Wyoming caucus results following a campaign rally at Laguardia Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York April 9, 2016.

The Clinton campaign congratulated Sanders on the win in Wyoming Saturday, but then went on to tout what it called a “nearly insurmountable lead in pledged delegates”. Clinton has 249 more delegates, according to Associated Press numbers, and 2,383 are needed to lock in the nomination.
The two candidates will face off in a debate in NY this week, days before the Empire State’s delegate-rich primary on April 19. “We need a country and a president who is going to care about us, not about the corporations”, Sisco said.
Clinton finished Saturday ahead 1,287-1,037 from state voting and has another roughly 500 so-called super delegates pledging to back her.
Since Clinton and Sanders both have strong ties to NY, this will likely be a fraught race, and one that will make a major difference in the final outcome of the primaries. “He’s performed very well in states with predominately white communities”, Wyoming Democratic Party Executive Director Aimee Van Cleave said.
The Sanders campaign said he is edging closer to Clinton in the NY polls.
Trump has cried “foul” because he got more votes in places like Louisiana (41% – 38%), but Cruz – having worked the system – ended up with an equal number of delegates (18 each). Clinton’s 40-point lead in that state is now down 13 percentage points. Mr Cruz is hoping to win at least enough votes to block an outright win for Mr Trump and force a decision at the party’s convention in July.
Sanders dismissed suggestions levied by Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill that his initial comments from a Philadelphia event saying that Clinton is not “qualified” to hold the office of the presidency, were in some way sexist. Ted Cruz of Texas clinched a majority of the state’s 37 national delegates by Friday night. Out of the last eight caucuses and primaries, the Vermont Senator has won seven and there are reasons to believe that for Hillary Clinton he has become a real serious threat.

Sanders, who is trailing Clinton in the overall race for Democratic delegates, performed well – although the former secretary of state did better than expected.
