When broken down among gender lines, Sanders has a 10-point lead with men and Clinton has the same advantage with women.

When asked whether an FBI investigation into her private email server would cause problems for the former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton said she was “100 percent confident” it would not.

“Democrats win when there is a large voter turnout, when people are excited”, he said during the 90 minute debate in New Hampshire sponsored by MSNBC.

It was Clinton who was the main aggressor, saying Sanders could never achieve his ambitious and costly proposals.

Clinton supporters have consoled themselves that, Iowa and New Hampshire notwithstanding, Hillary was better positioned nationally against Sanders for the nomination. Bernie Sanders for his “artful smear” on her integrity when he compared her campaign financing to his – that would put last night’s debate on track to be the lowest rated of the political election cycle to date.

Clinton, unwilling to cede the issue to Sanders, insisted her regulatory policies would be tougher on Wall Street than his.

Sanders, for his part, suggested Clinton’s loyalties were colored by a reliance on big corporate donors.

Clinton’s national lead is falling farther, faster than it did in 2008.

“Was it a mistake politically to show herself to be so closely tied financially to the Wall Street interests?”

“North Korea is a very unusual situation because it is such an isolated country run by a handful of dictators – or maybe just one”, Sanders said, referring to Kim Jong Un and declining to name specifics.

“I do not accept the belief that the United States of America can’t do that”, Sanders said of his plan for universal health care and of his efforts to take on “the rip-offs of the pharmaceutical industry”.

The Clinton campaign has been noncommittal about releasing transcripts of the paid speeches and Clinton has told reporters that she will “look into” making her remarks public.

Dean said in defense of Clinton that when she gave the speeches shortly after leaving the State Department she had not committed to running for president. “I don’t know the status”. Asked Clinton’s aim here, he said, “Success is winning… we want to make this as close as we can”.

Sanders allowed that while Clinton had been secretary of state, “experience is not the only point”.

On Thursday night, Sanders and Clinton faced off in a almost two-hour debate at the University of New Hampshire during which the former first lady mounted a sharp attack on her democratic socialist rival, warning his promises of revolution “don’t add up”.
