Bernie Sanders: Is his ‘revolution’ now beyond his control?
A range of speakers, from Hillary Clinton loyalists to Bernie Sanders himself, called for the Democratic Party to unite behind Clinton.

“Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States”, she said.
“Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States”, Mr Sanders said to raucous cheers from the Clinton faithful, many of whom had been nervously awaiting this exact moment. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker’s speech was a little like that tonight.
Even some members of the Wisconsin delegation, which included a large number of Sanders’ supporters after his win in the April 5 primary, grew tired of the interruptions.
After First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech, Jill Dunham was feeling pretty good. “The people that we’re representing are displeasured with the party”.
Fealk said he viewed the emergence of hacked DNC emails, which suggested favoritism of Clinton, as a revelation and evidence of the party’s disrespect for progressives.
The anger on the Democrat side is real and the media may be forced to finally deal with it. The anger on the GOP side was personal, such as the Trump-Cruz feud.
Earlier in the program, there were numerous LGBT speakers, such as Jason Collins, the first openly gay National Basketball Association player; Pat Spearman, a Nevada state senator, who is a lesbian; and Tina Kotek, who as Oregon’s speaker of the House is the first out lesbian to hold that post in any state.
“They screwed us”, Edelstein said of the Democratic Party organization that he blamed for unfairly stacking the deck for Clinton.
And even though some of the most ardent Sanders superfans are not jumping at the opportunity to fill in Clinton’s name on the ballot, the looming threat of Trump did seem particularly grave.
In Monday’s speech, Sanders continued his message from the campaign trail of what he calls a political revolution to transform the country and economy, and he says the revolution continues.
Sanders supporters broke into chants of “Bernie, Bernie”, but Silverman quickly shot back. He also noted that he and Clinton had differences during the campaign, but they have come closer on many issues, such as tuition-free public higher education, and that is reflected in the Democrats’ platform.
On the floor of the convention, there were cheers, but when Sanders spoke to a group of his own supporters earlier, he encountered jeers and boos as he urged that they join Clinton.
At a Monday afternoon rally Bernie Sanders was booed by his own supporters when he told them to back Mrs Clinton.
“Here’s the guy that gets arrested protesting segregated housing, and he’s telling us not to do a protest?” she asked. When he reminded them that a President Hillary Clinton would nominate liberals to the Supreme Court, they nodded.
It’s not exactly the most rousing endorsement, but it may be the best Mrs Clinton can hope for from this crowd – and, thanks in part to Mr Sanders’s efforts Monday night, it might be enough.
However, Sanders encouraged his supporters to take pride in their accomplishments over the election cycle, passing the party’s most progressive platform ever and working to change the status quo in the Democratic Party. However, what could be more un-American than Republican delegates chanting, “Lock her up, lock her up”, and wearing shirts that have “Hillary for prison” on them? Trump “ripped off people”, Podesta said.
But – in a thinly veiled jab at Mr Trump – she also painted a picture of a family that had to struggle with the shrill tone of today’s zero-sum politics. The frantic attempts to cool tempers came as DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz was forced to resign on the eve of the convention in the wake of the email controversy.
But as the packed house slowly poured out of the Wells Fargo Arena, it remained unclear just how many Sanders supporters would actually drink the Kool-Aid.
“I want those sparks to continue”.
“There’s very strong support for a challenge for a Tim Kaine nomination”, he told a news conference.
