The two were greeted by a cheering crowd of hundreds at Portsmouth High School as the Vermont senator announced his endorsement of his New Hampshire presidential primary rival.

He brought up unelected super delegates which went overwhelmingly for Clinton and talked about besting Clinton in a number of contests, saying, “Our campaign won the primaries and caucuses in 22 states, and when the roll call at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia is announced it will show that we won nearly 1,900 delegates. And I intend to do everything I can to make certain she will be the next President of the United States”.

Clinton hopes the joint appearance will help her win over Sanders supporters, some of whom carried Sanders signs into the rally and frequently drowned out her backers.

Sanders said he will go to all corners of the country to drum up support for Clinton now. WSJ’s Jason Bellini reports. Clinton’s campaign has been issued a permit from the National Park Service for a public assembly on July 29, according to a park service schedule of events during the week of the convention.

Clinton said the election will be far more enjoyable now that she and Sanders are on the same side. “Our whole nation is in mourning”, Trump said, as he pledged to “fight” for law enforcement personnel and ensure they have Washington s full backing.

Kim Stoddard is life-long Democrat and a strong supporter of Senator Sanders.

Mr Trump, who has been trying to court Sanders supporters, wrote in a tweet that Mr Sanders has “totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton”.

“I am proud to stand with her today”, Sanders said as he finished his speech.

Putting aside the acrimony, Clinton thanked Sanders for his endorsement – even if their body language did not exude warmth and was downright awkward at times. Perdomo says that endorsing Clinton now that the platform is complete makes sense.

Sanders’ endorsement included references to numerous issues on which he has managed to move Hillary in his direction, including the minimum wage and health care, but conspicuously absent was any mention of trade policy.

Recent polls have shown that many Sanders voters plan to back Clinton but have reservations about her honesty. Spokesman Michael Briggs said Sanders still supports holding a roll call vote at the convention to determine the nomination.

Trump’s senior policy advisor Stephen Miller quickly released a statement highlighting the many ways that Sanders’ endorsement contradicts his own beliefs.
