Bernie Sanders Supporters Shower Hillary Clinton Motorcade With $1 Bills

Actor and director George Clooney, a supporter of Mrs Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid, broke ranks over campaign financing last Saturday to condemn the “obscene” sums of money in United States politics and praised Mrs Clinton’s chief political rival in the process.

The Gravity star and his wife Amal Clooney hosted a fundraiser for Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton at the San Francisco home of entrepreneur Shervin Pishevar on Friday (15Apr16).

In response, Sanders’ campaign is running an ad in California contrasting his average donation – $27 – with Clinton’s fundraising.

Still, we bet he wouldn’t say no to that Clooney money if he does win the nomination.

“They’re right to protest, they’re absolutely right”, Clooney said in a preview clip of the interview. “I have a lot of respect for George Clooney’s honesty and integrity on this issue”.

A group of around 100 Sanders supporters showered Clinton’s motorcade in 1,000 single-dollar bills as the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate drove to Clooney’s fundraiser on Saturday.

Sanders was also asked if he feels Clooney is “backing the wrong horse”. “That’s a movement toward oligarchy”. He also addressed protester accusations that he is a “corporate shill”, saying, “That’s one of the funnier things you could say about me”. “When I think about the amount of money being raised at this fundraiser, the smallest ticket is $34,000 a plate”.

Gold, whose family founded the 99 Cents Only Stores chain, withdrew the money from a bank, organizers said.

Deadline estimates that the Clooney fundraisers netted a total of $15 million for Clinton and the DNC. Gold said he doesn’t support the former first lady because of her foreign policy views.

“You know, he went to see the pope”, Donald Trump said in comments transcribed by CBS News.

Gold said the protest was meant to lampoon campaign finance laws, and judging by his email invite, he made it a prominent theme of the night.

As for his get-together with Bernie Sanders, Pope Francis himself said the goal of the encounter was to discuss their common causes and not to make any statements regarding the ongoing political contests in America. “I wonder why the pope gave him five – he shouldn’t have given him that much time really”.
