Bernie Sanders Takes Maine Democratic Caucus

The bailout of the US auto industry by presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama remains popular in MI, the home of the USA auto industry, and has been credited with preserving the Midwest’s manufacturing base.

Sanders’s campaign tends to do better in states with large populations of white voters, while the former secretary of state has had more success in states where greater numbers of African-Americans participate.

The primaries in MS – where 40 GOP convention delegates and 33 Democratic delegates are at stake – are less competitive, according to the polls.

With the Republican race in chaos, establishment figures are frantically looking for any way to derail Trump, perhaps at a contested convention if no candidate can get enough delegates to lock up the nomination in advance. The overall margin of error is plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

Trump was leading the Republican pack among every demographic group – men, women, Republicans, independents, moderates and conservatives.

Some establishment Republicans say the best way to stop Trump would be for Rubio to win the 99-delegate Florida contest and Kasich the 66-delegate OH primary.

Cruz benefited from the fact that three of the four contests on Saturday were caucuses and that only one allowed voters other than previously registered Republicans to participate. In Maine, he won by 13 points. “I urge my fellow Mississippians to join me in standing behind Ted Cruz tomorrow”. That’s the way that democracy works”, Trump said on the program.

In Puerto Rico, 23 delegates are up for grabs by the Republican candidates.

“It’s a weird election year”, said Trent Lott, the former MS senator who is backing Kasich.

There has been a lot of talk that if Trump wins both Florida and OH (both winner-take-all states) a little over a week from now, he’ll then be “unstoppable”.

The tumult in the Republican race is a sharp contrast to the Democratic primary, where Clinton appears to be steadily marching toward the nomination.

That was the vow Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made to supporters in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho as he campaigned Saturday at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.

The survey, in the field from January 25 to March 3, changed substantially as voters recognized candidates other than Clinton and Trump after early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. For Kasich, Romney urges MI voters to choose someone who can defeat Clinton in the fall. Sanders has struggled to broaden his appeal beyond the loyal liberals and young voters attracted to his campaign. Though Rubio’s team has argued that the states where he is expected to do well, such as his home state of Florida, have yet to vote. Among Democrats, Clinton had accumulated 1,134 delegates and Sanders 502, including superdelegates.
