“I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America’s future”, Wasserman Schultz said in a statement released on Sunday.

Wasserman Schultz still plans to open and close the convention, as well as address delegates “about the stakes involved in this election”.

The responsibility of gaveling each session to order was transferred to Ohio Representative Marcia Fudge, who was named permanent chair of the convention on Sunday.

Luis Miranda, the communications director at the DNC announced on Twitter that DNC Vice Chairwoman Donna Brazile will serve as interim chair through the election in November. In her own e-mail exchanges, Wasserman Schultz questioned Sanders’ loyalty to the party- he has never registered as a Democrat- and disparaged his campaign’s leadership in personal terms.

“We’ll accept [Clinton’s] nomination if that’s what we have to do…but we’re never going to accept her!” the Sanders supporter said gesturing at the chairwoman speaking on stage.

The breaking point came when a range of leaked emails showed that committee staff members intentionally tried to sabotage Sanders’ campaign. One top Democratic official described Wasserman Schultz to CNN as “quarantined”.

The Democratic National Convention will take place in Philadelphia from Monday, July 25th to Thursday, July 28th.

“She worked very hard to rig the system so that Hillary got it”, Trump said of Wasserman Schultz. “I can see there’s a little bit of interest in my being here, and I can appreciate that interest – and a little bit of interest from the press”, she admitted to the screaming Bernie Sanders supporters.

“It goes without saying the function of the DNC”, Sanders said, “is to represent all of the candidates to be fair and even-minded”. He did acknowledge his disappointment over the biased support of the party leadership to the Clinton campaign.

In a statement, the Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort demanded that following Schultz’s resignation, Clinton drop out of the race. “I mean, that is just totally unacceptable behavior”, he said.
