“Clinton’s supporters are divided – 50% view their vote more as a vote for their own candidate, while 48% say it is more a vote against Trump,”the authors of the Pew survey results said”.
Sanders supporter Benjamin Jealous, a former NAACP president who serves as a member of the committee, called the amendment “a victory for the Bernie Sanders campaign and for working people across the country”.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump motorcade departs after meeting with the Senate Republican Conference at the National Republican Senatorial Committee headquarters, Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Washington.
Sanders is also calling for concessions on health care and a provision to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership global trade deal. Sanders also wants a carbon tax to address climate change and seeks a freeze on hydraulic fracking. After the Orlando meeting, the document will be voted on at the convention in Philadelphia this month.
Roughly four-in-ten voters (41 percent) say it is hard to choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton because neither would make a good president, as high as at any point since 2000.
Middlebury College political science professor Matt Dickinson says Sanders is sticking to his belief that the Democratic Party needs to be transformed on some basic economic issues.
Sanders was invited to join a meeting with House Democrats on Wednesday, where he dodged questions about endorsing Clinton and was met with boos after saying, “The goal isn’t to win elections”.
The Times and NPR cited anonymous Democratic sources familiar with discussions between the campaigns.
The NYT reports that the pending endorsement is being orchestrated by the two candidates’ campaign managers, Clinton’s Robby Mook and Sanders’ Jeff Weaver, who recently had dinner together in Vermont.
For many Democrats, the endorsement is overdue.
Bernie Sanders is finally ready to endorse Hillary Clinton.
After those different openings, each ad carries the same narration and footage of Clinton speaking to world leaders such as Vladimir Putin as secretary of state. It would also draw comparisons to 2008, when then-Sen.
Clinton on Tuesday received the backing of President Barack Obama at a campaign rally and has scheduled an event with Vice President Joe Biden for Friday in Pennsylvania.
Sanders’ influence is clearly evident in the draft of the party’s platform, which contains some of his signature campaign ideas, such as a $15 minimum wage and language like “a rigged economy”. His aides stress his millions of votes and his highly motivated delegates to the convention. Many point to Clinton’s Wall Street speeches, the email scandal, the Clinton Foundation, and, of course, Clinton’s record, which is hawkish in the realm of foreign policy and center-right in the realm of domestic policy.

While some on the left may worry it’s a sign Sanders and his left-populist message are being co-opted in service of our old friend the neoliberal establishment (and they probably are), it seems said establishment is making real concessions to gain his support.
