Bernie Sanders wins New Hampshire primary, makes Jewish history

Mr Trump appeared on stage with a beaming smile on his face and gave a thumbs-up to his crowd of supporters. Rather than clean, organized, color-coded establishment candidates forming a Republican Voltron, the loudest, most vulgar and fringe Republicans are about to slap their wrists together like the Power Rangers to form a very big Trump political machine more powerful than ever.

The eventual outcomes of each party’s nominating process remain unclear.

The worst any eventual nominee performed was Barry Goldwater in 1964 with 22.3 percent of the vote, behind Henry Cabot Lodge at 35.5 percent. He doubled the vote of his closest competitor.

On the Republican side, the results zeroed in on the party’s current rift. The key second place spot in the Republican contest went to Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who garnered 16% of the vote, as of early Wednesday. I’m disappointed with tonight.

“He is starting to mix in some positive messages along with his branded anger-and-insult approach to campaigning”, Dr. Cornfield said. He vowed to slow down and spend more time in these personal, “healing” conversations with supporters. That’s a missed opportunity for Rubio to consolidate the establishment behind him going into SC.

“Young Marco Rubio is in trouble”, noted Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, a fellow Cuban-American who has been highly critical of Trump and Cruz and friendly to Rubio. Marco Rubio getting numbers ranging from 11.7 percent to 10.6 percent. If he had been third in Iowa and second in New Hampshire, he could claim to be moving in the right direction.

With Trump and Sanders coming away victorious from New Hampshire, Medved said there is “room for another quirky candidate in the middle”.

“Obviously, we can’t let that happen again”, Rubio said.

In remarks Tuesday night, Rubio acknowledged his bungled debate performance Saturday night hurt him: “It’s on me”, he said. Rubio also has prominent Republicans backing him in the state, including Sen. Two other Republicans, retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson and businesswoman Carly Fiorina, trailed further behind.

The ad shows three young boys playing with a Trump action figure with one notable feature. Ted Cruz, who battled late into the night for third place. The South Carolina senator endorsed Bush after abandoning his own hopes for the presidency in December.

Kasich also planned a veteran’s hiring event and steel plant tour on his first full day in SC.

“Nine months ago, we began our campaign here in the Granite State”, Mr Sanders said.

Polls confirm those impressions – 46 percent of Republicans said they made up their minds just within the last few days, compared to just under a quarter for Democrats.

“I know many people are disappointed”.

The Democratic race hasn’t changed significantly after New Hampshire, with only two candidates, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, competing. She has mainly been losing the working-class vote.

Still, by finishing an unexpected second, Kasich kept alive his hope of maintaining his candidacy until the race reaches MI and his home state of OH next month. At New Hampshire Technical Institute, Takeaway Washington Correspondent Todd Zwillich spoke to first-time voters-a key constituency for Senator Bernie Sanders-about what’s driving them to the polls. On Feb. 20, the race moves to Nevada, where 30% of caucusgoers in 2008 were either African American or Hispanic. Cruz on Wednesday previewed what could be a brawl for that faction in SC, calling the state a “Southern Baptist state” like Texas. He talked about drug addiction in New Hampshire. Traffic to ActBlue, the progressive clearinghouse for Democratic donations, also spiked overnight. Rabbi Robin Nafshi of Temple Beth Jacob in Concord, New Hampshire, told the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein that Sanders’ victory has sent a message about Judaism.

It may be a celebration Tuesday night, but winning the New Hampshire primary will undoubtedly bring a new degree of scrutiny to Sanders and his proposals. But his policies and record will likely be given a new round of scrutiny now that he’s emerged as a much more plausible contender for the Democratic nomination.
