Bernie Sanders won the United States presidential Democratic nominating contest in Wyoming on Saturday, besting rival Hillary Clinton and adding to a string of recent victories as the two candidates gear up for a crucial matchup in NY. Outperforming expectations, Hillary Clinton tied in pledged delegates today and now leads Senator Sanders by approximately 220 pledged delegates nationwide.
While the delegates were few, it was an important win for Sanders ahead of the pivotal NY primary on. Although media outlets have tried to bury Sanders, he is very much alive and the nomination will be a contested one.
The Vermont senator’s biggest victory appears to be in Albany County, where he won almost 75 percent of the vote, taking 25 delegates to former Secretary of State Clinton’s eight delegates, according to kowb1290.com.
On Wednesday, Clinton told MSNBC that Sanders “himself doesn’t consider himself to be a Democrat”.
The editorial went on to add that the front-page mock-up took promises Trump has made on the campaign trail to “their logical conclusion”. Sanders, who lists his party for Senate votes as Independent but caucuses with Democrats, has at various times in his career described himself as a Socialist or a Democratic Socialist.
Clinton spoke tonight in Brooklyn following her eighth loss.
247 Number of delegates at stake in April 19 Democratic presidential primary in NY.
During an interview that aired Sunday on CNN, Sanders said that while he believes that Clinton has the experience to be president, her initial support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq and her previous support for various global trade agreements raised red flags. But that didn’t stop both Clinton and Sanders from setting up campaign offices and running television ads there.
“I think when people get to see and hear a candidate or a former president first hand it really inspires them to understand the true meaning of an election”, says Aimee Van Cleave, the executive director of the Wyoming Democratic Party.
