Bernie Sanders Won Democrats Abroad … But Who Are They?

Bernie Sanders has won the primary contest surveying U.S. Democrats living overseas, adding another nine Democratic delegates to his tally in his race against Hillary Clinton. In Afghanistan, for example, seven Democrats cast votes: two were for Clinton and five for Sanders.

Sanders has framed his entire candidacy on the need to create what he calls a “political revolution” in which average Americans are more politically active and engaged.

Sanders faces an uphill battle to win the nomination at July’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, but campaign aides told Politico they hope superdelegates could secure him the position.

While those voters elect pledged delegates for the party’s national convention, the Democratic process also includes superdelegates – party officials who are able to cast their own votes, separate from primary and caucus results.

Mr Sanders, who lost week lost five primary races to the former secretary of state, raised $43.5m in the month, compared with Ms Clinton, who raised $30.1m, the Washington Post reported.

To be more specific, while talking in front of a group of Democratic Donors, he said that Bernie Sanders’ campaign is close to its end and they should really consider uniting behind Clinton. That would bring Clinton’s delegate total to 1323 and Sanders to 971. “Vote for the Communist Party”, a Sanders supporter said at a rally in Chicago.

Indeed, if Clinton becomes the first female president of the United States, she will have Bernie Sanders to thank for helping her get there. It takes 2,383 delegates to win the nomination. So we have no reason to vote for Hillary in the general election.

The Republican Party appears to be less organised than the Democrats in mobilising support among ex-pats and does not conduct a special primary for members and supporters living overseas.

There are 330 super delegates from the 28 states and territories that have voted so far in the Democratic primaries and caucuses. More importantly, Sanders needs to continue putting pressure on Clinton; doing so forces her to engage the issues progressives want her to engage, and that’s good for the party.

On Sunday, an estimated 15,000 Sanders’ supporters showed up at Seattle’s KeyArena, according to local news reports. In terms of specific votes, Sanders received 23,779 votes and Clinton won 10,689 votes.

“What’s important is not whether or not he gets out, but how he campaigns”, said Sen.
