Bernie sets Iowa goalposts: Obama ’08 too far

Trump raised the prospect of skipping the debate as he blasted Fox News Channel for “playing games” and including anchor Megyn Kelly as a debate moderator. “I would love to see us do that, I hope we can”. At a televised town hall forum Monday evening, she said she was “really touched and gratified” when she saw the interview – Obama’s strongest indication to date of his preference in the race.

“We’ve got to get her in there”, Scott said.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders drew around 14,000 supporters to downtown St. Paul as part of a two-city swing through Minnesota Tuesday.

“In countries around the world, in Scandinavia and in Germany, the ideas that I am talking about are not radical ideas”, said Sanders, referring to his plans to provide universal health care coverage, rein in Wall Street and involve government in helping students pay for college.

“At age 70, revolution has passed me by”, Benson said.

The meeting with Obama has been on the books “for days”, Sanders’ spokesman Michael Briggs told CNN. “You’re fired”, Cruz said, riffing on Trump’s famous rejoinder from the “The Apprentice”.

The White House said later that Sanders would meet informally with Obama in the Oval Office on Wednesday and “there will be no formal agenda”. The state’s largest paper said it would team up with MSNBC for a debate “unsanctioned” by the Democratic Party, which scheduled only six primary debates this season – largely on weekends.

Just a day earlier, Clinton had been soaking in presidential praise. Barack Obama in 2008. The White House did not disclose the session ahead of time, and said afterward it was mostly a “social occasion”.

Democrats, too, faced fresh uncertainty about their debates – marquee events in the presidential race.

We are officially six days away from the first-in-nation Iowa Caucuses. So far, only Martin O’Malley has said he’ll participate. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. speaks during a stop at the United Steelworkers Local 310L union hall, Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.

On the Democratic side, the same poll shows Hillary Clinton as the most popular candidate among voters.

Still trailing with minority voters, the predominantly white electorates of Iowa and New Hampshire set Sanders up for success.

“If I’m the candidate best able to do that, you can bet your bottom buck we’re going to have a whole lot of establishment Democrats on board”, Sanders said.

Clinton has been facing relentless attacks from Republicans over her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state and her handling of the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi in which the USA ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, was killed.

Cruz spent his day in Iowa trying to avoid a war of words with Trump, who accused him of being nervous and a “total mess”.
