Besides Cavs, Knicks reached out to Celtics, Clippers about ‘Melo deal
Anthony’s no-trade clause and the trade kicker are daunting obstacles. Some are looking at the trade deadline as a prime opportunity to get something in return for a player that they don’t need or want to get rid off. Anthony has also indicated he would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the Knicks asked him to.

As The Verticalreported Thursday morning, the Knicks are engaged in talks with several teams in their attempt to move Carmelo Anthony. Anthony’s closest friends are the Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Clippers’ Chris Paul. On the surface, it doesn’t solve a ton of their problems. Anthony and James’ friendship is well known, but the Cavs aren’t willing to part ways with Love to bring Anthony in. So it will be very hard but not impossible to move Anthony, who makes $24.6 million this season. Both players can opt out of the final years of their deals. The environment is becoming increasingly toxic, and that’s to be expected any time a franchise’s best and highest-paid player butts head with the upper management.
Knicks tried to offer Carmelo Anthony to the Cavs in exchange for Kevin Love.
There is a lot of drama that continues to brew between Carmelo Anthony and the front office of the New York Knicks.
Eventually, the pitch was made and quickly rejected by the Cavs. Who we’ve got in here, we’ve gotta play.
Moving Anthony won’t be easy, however. Dellavedova is one seasoned playmaker that they could contend.
The Knicks have been trying to rebuild and revamp this roster ever since Jackson took over as the president in 2014 and thus far, it’s been one step forward and two steps backward. The Clippers would have to shed about $27 million in salary to acquire Anthony, Isola says. More than that, the two reported that Knicks president Phil Jackson is “determined” to find a deal for Anthony prior to next month’s trade deadline. But he also said the Knicks are not playing together or for each other. First Carmelo said he would consider it, then he said he wanted to stay and now he says he would consider it again.

No deal is imminent and, in fact, the Knicks will likely seek a better offer since the National Basketball Association trade deadline is February 23. So, if you’re going to try and swing a fantasy deal involving Love and Anthony, make sure you’re on the Love side of the deal. The trade would be less beneficial for Anthony, who would go from sharing the rock with Porzingis and Derrick Rose to sharing it with James and Irving. It needs to happen now. He’s four years younger than Melo. At this point, it doesn’t matter how much Noah makes.
