Some customers have shared screenshots of their cancellation emails that state Best Buy claims they were “unable to verify” their information. He added that anyone who purchased the discounted cards will have their orders automatically cancelled.
Twitter users were generally in good humour about the website gaffe.
“As listed in the terms and conditions of the site”, per Gizmodo, “Best Buy can still cancel your order thanks to a pricing mistake, which this nearly certainly is”.
“Unfortunately it’s not really offered for $15”, the representative said.
The $200 “designer” gift cards were erroneously showing up for only $15. “Wonder whether they will honor it though”.
A glitch on Best Buy’s website enabled thousands of people to buy gift cards worth $US200 for just $US15 on Tuesday night, Time reports.
After a few hours, the Best Buy link became more and more hard for users to access, reportedly undergoing several changes before it finally resulted in the following “We’re Sorry” message. Users said sales went through and that their bank accounts were charged.
Best Buy has yet to issue a statement on the blunder – and acknowledge whether it will honour the purchases.
