Jason Garrett announced on Saturday that Tony Romo had an MRI taken of his back after sustaining an injury on the third play of Dallas’ third preseason game on Thursday night.

Rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott likely will start the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on September 11 if Romo is ruled out.
But that’s more wishful thinking as even Garrett acknowledged that the Cowboys expect Romo back “during the season”, making rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott the team’s opening day starter.
It appeared Romo had escaped serious injury after initial fears were dire as, 90 seconds into last week’s preseason game, he was hit from behind by the Seahawks’ Cliff Avril, hit the ground and immediately reached for his back.
“We’re confident that he’s going to be coming back and playing football for us this year”, coach Jason Garrett said but provided no timetable on Romo’s return. “The chemistry is there with the players”. The club can pull any player back from injured reserved after they’ve been on it for at least six weeks. Starters generally sit out that game and turn their focus to the regular season. First reports stated that Romo would be fine, but further test showed the injury would cost Romo a lot of time if not his career.
There must be something special in the water at the new Dallas Cowboys team facilities. “I thought he did a particularly good job in this game against Seattle because he certainly didn’t anticipate going in on the fourth play of the game”.
The Cowboys plunged from 12-4 in 2014 to 4-12 last season, when Romo missed 12 games with a twice-broken left collarbone. He also has thrown no interceptions and has ran for two touchdowns.
“He just going to start getting into rehab and part of his rehab is he’s going to be wearing a back brace for now, ” Garrett said. But that didn’t stop the star receiver from voicing his opinions on Twitter throughout the team’s Thursday night game against Seattle, which the Seahawks won 27-17. “He wants to take full advantage of the opportunity”.
“He’s come to our camp [the Manning Passing Academy] before and I watched him play at Mississippi State”, Manning said. A player on PUP misses the first six games of the season.

However, there’s a real concern with the Cowboys’ roster and that is the depth at quarterback.
