Best of NBA: Warriors throttle Tim Duncan-less Spurs

The Spurs and Warriors have dominated the rest of the National Basketball Association in historic fashion this season.

This is the matchup we’ve been waiting for all season and it should be a good one.

The San Antonio Spurs visit the Golden State Warriors on Monday (10:30 p.m. ET, NBA TV), the first meeting between what have been the league’s two best teams by a wide margin.

Curry had 37 points, the most the Spurs had given up to any single player this season – before the third quarter was even finished. That gives Golden State a big edge if they decide to go big.

Yeah, this is about Western Conference supremacy, a potential preview of the West Finals, a key game on the road to 72. After Cleveland, the Warriors played the Chicago Bulls, where they led 34-18 in the first quarter. He could never make the impact he typically makes when facing a San Antonio team that went both big and small against him at different times.

“Tony Parker has shown he can still contribute offensively, while Manu Ginobili is leading perhaps the best bench unit in the league”.

The Warriors will play the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. The Spurs now lead the league in points allowed per game by a decent margin and will need to be on the top of their game to stop a Golden State offense that scores nearly 115 PPG.

The Warriors have at least as much talent as San Antonio. They won in a 120-90 thrashing Monday, treating the vaunted Spurs as if they were any other opposing team coming into Oracle Arena to face annihilation.

In the scope of this season, tonight’s showdown between the Warriors and Spurs is just one of 82. Absolute annihilation that moved Golden State to 41-4 on the year with a 39-game home winning-streak. At no point did they seem like a team that was second to anyone. He hasn’t played a lot of power forward during his Spurs career, but that doesn’t mean he can’t. The first-time All-Star selection and reigning defensive player of the year guarded Curry on one of his 17 field goal attempts when these teams last played (in April 2015). He made six 3-pointers, but those weren’t even the story.

The Spurs, you might have heard, have a pretty decent defender in Kawhi Leonard.

A three-point play from Zach LaVine pulled the Timberwolves within 110-107 with 16.5 seconds left.

If basketball has any say in the decision, the NBA’s best gave answered the age-old question Monday night: What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

Giniboli said the Spurs weren’t aware of the anniversary ahead of the match.

Yet the Spurs haven’t tasted defeat since last month at Houston, and ever since have ripped off solid wins over Cleveland, Dallas, and Utah, as well as Friday’s 108-95 triumph over the lowly Los Angeles Lakers.

Guard Troy Daniels hit his eighth three-pointer of the game with nine seconds remaining in the second overtime, lifting the Charlotte Hornets to a 129-128 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

NETS 116, THUNDER 106: In New York, Brook Lopez scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Brooklyn snapped Oklahoma City’s seven-game winning streak.

Both teams have their star players, of course. But Kawhi Leonard was supposed to be-and in the past always has been-the Spurs’ not-so-secret weapon against the Warriors, the Steph Curry kryptonite.
