When the awards show finally aired on May 22, the tribute did in fact include Madonna along with Stevie Wonder.

On Tuesday, which happens to be the late superstar’s birthday, BET tweeted that Sheila E., Janelle Monae, the Roots and D’Angelo are just some of the scheduled performers for the Prince tribute at the June 26 BET Awards.
Network, who run the awards bash celebrating African Americans and other minorities in entertainment and sport, announced the news on Tuesday (07Jun16), writing on Twitter that these would be, “only a few” of the acts involved. The pair sang two songs, “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Purple Rain”, and concluded the tribute with the words, “thank you Prince Rogers Nelson, for all that you have given us”, as reported by Billboard.
Shortly after the Billboard performance, BET tweeted a video with the snarky message, “Yeah, we saw that”.
The network also announced Alicia Keys and Maxwell, along with more stars, will also be performing at this year’s award show. Now they are hoping to back up their “We Got You” claims by tapping a handful of artists that Prince had a big influence on.
