Bethesda Explains Why We’re Not Getting ‘Morrowind,’ ‘Oblivion’ Remasters

Why then, following the worldwide box office success of the Warcraft movie, haven’t we seen big screen adaptations of game giants Elder Scrolls and Fallout? That doesn’t mean we will never see sequels to the aforementioned titles, but it seems like the developers want space between sequels so they feel fresh. If you happen to be someone who falls into that category, then you’ll be happy to know that Bethesda has no intention of doing that with The Elder Scrolls VI.

Unfortunately, with this announcement fans are now in a bit of a pickle: we already know the game is in development, but Bethesda will not reveal any information about the game until it’s ready to hit shelves.

In the meantime, Hines also talked about the possibility of an “The Elder Scrolls” movie adaptation, and Bethesda is only interested if Peter Jackson would work on the movie.

So, while the next Elder Scrolls installment isn’t now in development, Hines says that the game will see a release “eventually”.

“This studio [Bethesda Game Studios] is not a vending machine”, he said. Jerry Bruckheimer is on Bethesda parent company ZeniMax’s board of directors, an incredible resource that most studios simply couldn’t hope to have access to.

“An Oblivion remaster is an interesting idea, but it’s a ten year old game”, he said, “and Morrowind is 14”. You’re not going to be hearing first details on [The Elder Scrolls VI] years before the game comes out, absolutely not.

The executive added that game director Todd Howard and his team have the right to suggest which project they are going to work next.

“I should have never said a number because we have so many things”.

Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard revealed that discussions have been had with studios/producers, but he wasn’t convinced. “We don’t want to talk about it quite yet until we’ve figured some things out”.

Still, it’s hard to imagine a better fit for The Elder Scrolls than Peter Jackson.
