Bethesda Reveals Sony Won’t Allow Fallout 4 Mods on PS4

The immediate assumption is that Sony was likely trying to enforce greater control on which mods would show up on its system than what Bethesda would like.

Bethesda is not mincing words here, placing the ball firmly in Sony’s court for declining to permit users to “do anything they want” with mods on the console.

Bethesda goes on to say that they hope to find a way for user mods to be available on the PlayStation 4 but they make it clear they’re done searching for a solution. This applies specifically to ‘Fallout 4’ and to ‘Skyrim – Special Edition,’ the latter of which is not even out yet.

The video game developer expressed its disappointment over Sony’s decision given the work put into the project and the time fans had been waiting for mod support to arrive. But in this case, there is no other alternative for getting mods onto the PS4 save through Sony. Apparently, the Japanese tech firm had its own vision for how the program could work, but it was too restrictive to the action-RPG’s users, as found in Bethesda’s full statement on the matter below. Unfortunately, Bethesda came out with the disappointing news today that, alongside the upcoming Skyrim Special Edition, will not receive approval from Sony to allow such mods at all. They also made the announcement that when they released their remastered The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Oct. 28th) they’d be releasing it with mod support as well.

Bethesda claimed that Sony wouldn’t allow console mods to perform on PS4 at the standard that they already do on Xbox One, which led to the decision of suspending support for the community content until a solution could be found.

For example, the Far Harbor expansion had a number of problems across all platforms, but the PS4 stands out because it was the only one with a fix that involved having to reinstall the game. Memory and performance issues may occur.

“We will provide an update if and when this situation changes”. PS4 sound format is a proprietary format.

PS4 Mod Storage limit is approximately 900 MB at present.

Maybe these issues couldn’t be resolved.

The Bethesda executive then clarified that the feature is still coming despite the lack of updates and the long delay that is definitely testing the patience of many fans.
