Betts’ 3 HRs carries Porcello, Red Sox to another Fenway win
Dave Ferriss was the last Boston pitcher to start a season 13-0 at Fenway in 1946. “I don’t know that exactly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the similar comments [to those on Porcello] come out [about] David”, Farrell said prior to Sunday’s game.

Mookie Betts blasted three home runs and had eight RBIs to help Rick Porcello remain undefeated at home this season as the Boston Red Sox rolled to a 16-2 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is having another outstanding season, batting.292 with 26 doubles, 28 homers and a.966 OPS. And out in Southern California, Mike Trout is doing Mike Trout-like things (.311, 26 doubles, 22 homers, 19 steals, .973 OPS) for the terrible Los Angeles Angels.
Not a bad weekend’s work from the Red Sox.
Dustin Pedroia had five hits and Jackie Bradley Jr. chipped in with a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who closed a six-game homestand at 4-2.
Boston scored two runs in the first inning and seven in the second. He also leads the league in at-bats (492) and has played all but 48 innings this season.
Red Sox reliever Brad Ziegler got his first matchup against his former teammates in a tight spot – bases loaded and nobody out in the eighth inning.
Greinke allowed nine runs on 11 hits. There’s nothing on the field he can’t do. Betts would homer again, this time bringing in three runs. He homered twice off of former Cy Young Award victor Zack Greinke and once off of reliever Adam Loewen, blasting two three-run homers and one two-run shot.
He did so. This time, he didn’t quit it quite as hard, forcing the refs to go to the tape when the ball ended up in the hands of a fan in the front row of the Monster seats, but sure enough, it was a three-run shot, and a 7-0 lead. Betts went 4 for 6 in the game, adding a single. And when he came to the plate in the sixth inning, the crowd was chanting “Let’s Go Mookie”.
“They told me try and swing for it”, Betts said.
There would be neither a fifth hit nor a fourth homer.
Red Sox: LHP Drew Pomeranz (0-2, 5.26) is set to start when they open their four-city road trip.
Every hitter should have such problems. The New Jersey native held the New York Yankees to two runs and seven hits in eight innings to earn a win on Tuesday – the third straight start in which he completed at least eight frames.
Because much like Price, Porcello wasn’t a good pitcher when he first came Boston a year ago.
By then, Betts might be on the doorstep of 30 homers.

Betts’ second home run drove in three runs in the second inning. The former AL Cy Young Award victor surrendered three or fewer runs in each of his last seven outings.
