The out-of-town scoreboard had offered tantalizing news.

At this point, it’s just a matter of time. Again there is no longer time for excuses and it all comes down to one important game.

After losses in the first two games of the four-game series and with the chance to wrap up a wild-card berth, the Yankees rallied from a 3-0 deficit. And right now, the Yankees are in the business of wasting those.

One major issue is the failure of any of the young arms in the Yankees’ bullpen to step up and fill that void. Paced out over 162 games, that’s 40 home runs, and over 100 runs and RBI. Anything can happen. And tonight, it did, with Ogando working around a leadoff single in the ninth and two-out walk in the tenth to send the game into the eleventh.

Here are a few more notes from Wednesday’s win.

In theory, that’s true.

But that’s not the way it’s going right now. But by the end of the third inning, he already had spent 70 of those – and fallen behind, 4-1.

“It’s extremely gratifying”, manager Joe Girardi said. Tanaka seemed to adjust a bit, but the five hits and three runs he gave up don’t indicate he is up for the task to get the ball Tuesday night.

We knew this was coming for a while now. If the Yankees have any hope for the a deep postseason run, then the bats need to wake up.

“There’s not alarm. Let’s make it clear: That team is playing really good baseball”.

So many runners on base, and not almost enough of them came around to score.

“Today was a tough loss”, Betances said. He gave up four runs and served up two homers after giving up two combined over his previous seven appearances. “But we’ll be alright”. “It was a little bit hard”. “He looked rusty to me”.

“It’s kind of a different story if you have 12 days when your body is completely healthy”. Pedroia led the third off with another ground rule double to left field, as his hit bounced just inside the foul line before entering the seats.

Tanaka did not return early since he had to play catch, throw a bullpen session and throw off flat ground. “So I’m not too concerned about that”.

The Red Sox have won three consecutive games and will be seeking their fourth four-game win streak of the season.

The right-hander hasn’t pitched in a game since September 18, when he suffered a Grade 1 (mild) right hamstring strain against the Mets at Citi Field; Tanaka was breaking out of the batter’s box on a sacrifice bunt attempt.

Had Tanaka not been ready by Thursday, his next start would have been in the postseason.

“Look at the babies”, Ortiz said in the locker room after the game, per CSNNE’s Sean McAdam. “Those two guys out there in center and left, they’ve been the difference maker”. I guess I was pretty stubborn about getting that run in. Then August hit and it all went down the toilet. “I’m assuming he’ll be back tomorrow”, the manager said. It changed the whole at-bat.

The Yankees had never before failed to finish first in a season in which they led by more than six games. Finally, he was asked if the layoff was responsible for the absence of his good splitter. Rico Noel is now a flawless five-for-five in stolen base attempts…. 296 with 42 RBI in his past 77 games. “It’s something that we will continue to iron out as we move forward”. We’re doing everything we can. Here are my predictions on the starting lineup I believe the Yankees will go with. “I’m not sure what’s going to make it better”. Amateur guitar player. Reluctant cook.
